A retreat is a time for stepping back from life in order to return to it more fully and creatively. Retreats are for ordinary people at any times in their lives. If you long for quiet space, need time for reflection away from work or family or want to deepen your spiritual life, then a retreat might be for you.
We aim to offer at least four mini-retreats a year.
The Breathing Space Yurt is a unique, naturally beautiful place that can comfortably hold thirty people. During retreat, there is also access to an art-garage, gardens, a spacious and homely kitchen and a few quiet, cozy corners. We provide delicious home-cooked organic food.
Monthly gatherings of simple ritual and shared silence. We are looking to create a place of stillness and awareness of the seasons and rhythms of the day and our interconnectedness with all of creation. We will be drawing on inspirational writings from Christian and other traditions, contemporary spiritual writing and poetry. This group is open to all but will be of particular interest to those who are looking for an earthy spirituality.
From time to time Breathing Space will be hosting arts workshops for all ages. In the past these have varied from visual arts to theatre to creative writing to movement and workshops will usually contain elements from several of these art forms. We enjoy exploring the creative process, being curious, trying things out and developing skills.
The workshops are facilitated by experienced arts teachers and practitioners and welcomes those of all abilities. Participants will be introduced to a variety of stimulus allowing each artist to find their own creative way of working.
This is a new group which takes place bi-monthly and is open to poetry lovers who want to have a go at writing their own. It is a small friendly group providing a safe space in which to share our own writing as well as favourite poems. We offer encouragement and constructive feedback through the careful listening to one othersʼ work within a friendly atmosphere.
Films in the Yurt
Films in the Yurt take place termly and are generally for adults. The format is easy – we watch a film chosen according to the simple criteria that we think it is good and worthy of watching. This is followed by relaxed after-film discussion, while we munch on food and imbibe a drink or two. Please feel free to suggest films and forget what your parents told you about not talking to strangers – we have discovered that mainly we are all just as shy and as curious as each other. Expect an enlivening film, tasty food and energizing, heartening conversation.
Where does it all happen?
